Explaining a research tool to researchers and participants

Intake24 is an open-source online system for 24-hour dietary recall, based on the multiple-pass method. It has been validated against biomarkers and interviewer-led recalls, and adapted for France, Australia, New Zealand, the UAE, and South Asia. We built intake24.org, the public website that introduces the tool.

The challenge

The website serves several audiences at once: researchers evaluating the tool, participants trying it out, and developers interested in the open-source code. It needed to explain the science clearly and send each visitor to the right place, whether that's a demo, the publications, the documentation, or the research team.

What we built

We designed and developed a warm, food-themed website in Nuxt, with clear sections on what Intake24 is, its features, the science behind it, and localisation. Header shortcuts lead to the researcher guides, documentation, and source code, so the site works as the front door to the wider project.

  • "Try Now" and "Get Started" buttons that lead straight to the recall tool
  • Features, science, and localisation sections written for research audiences
  • Dedicated Open Source, Publications, and Contact pages, plus a newsletter sign-up
  • Header links to the researcher guides, documentation, and GitHub source code

The result

Intake24 now has a modern public website that presents a validated scientific tool clearly. Researchers can evaluate it, participants can try it, and partners can get in touch about adapting it for their country.
